Our Clinic

About Us

Compassionate Care

Our veterinary hospital excels in preventative health care such as wellness exams, vaccinations, parasite screenings, and parasite treatments for cats and dogs.  Smoky Mountain Animal Clinic  in Seymour can also provide surgical procedures, dental extractions and prophylactic cleanings, emergency care during business hours, end of life care, and disease management.   Itchy dog? Vomiting cat? We've got you covered!

We may be the only clinic around that also routinely takes in, cares for, and rehomes up to 50 cats and kittens a year!  Check our lobby for available kitties throughout the year.

Our staff focuses on transparency, patient comfort, and collaborative efforts with pet parents for the best decision for pet care.

Experienced Veterinarians

Dr. Hill (2013), Dr. Armstrong (2013), and Dr. Sterling are all local graduates from the UT College of Veterinary Medicine.  Dr Bello is an Oklahoma State graduate.

OUR DOCTORS

An Individual Approach

Your animal is special and unique and veterinary care should reflect that.  We customize our annual vaccine recommendations and parasite prevention based on the risk to your pet and your convenience.

Woman Owned Local Business

Since Dr. Susan Sterling opened the doors in 1981, Smoky Mountain Animal Clinic has been 100% Locally owned and operated.   We moved into our new building in 2014 and ownership changed hands to Dr. Lindsey Hill in 2018.

We believe this is important because  most surrounding clinics have become corporately owned, which leads to increasing pet care costs, loss of personal a touch, and sends profits out of state instead of supporting our local employees and the community.

Our Doctors

Dr Lindsey Hill

Dr. Hill graduated at the top of her class from UT Vet School in 2013.  She worked briefly in Maryville after graduation and has been a team member of Smoky Mountain Animal Clinic since 2014.  She is the current owner and manager of the practice.  She is originally from Maryville, TN and attended William Blount High School and Maryville College.  Before vet school she volunteered for a local rescue group ARFNets and currently still actively fosters up to 50 cat and kittens each year.  She lives with her husband, numerous cats, a German shepherd, and a goofy golden retriever.  Interests include nature photography and reading historical nonfiction.  *Hair color may vary!

Dr Jennifer Armstrong

Dr. Armstrong also graduated from UT Vet School in 2013 and completed an internship at Young Williams the year following.  She was with Young Williams until joining Smoky Mountain Animal Clinic in 2017.  She lives in Knoxville with her husband, 3 sons, 2 dogs, 2 cats, and 2 birds.  Interests include science fiction and jogging.

Dr Carl Bello

Dr. Bello graduated from Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1990 and has worked at various small animal practices in the U.S. and Canada. He has found a home in East Tennessee and has been a team member at Smoky Mountain Animal Clinic since 2023.

He lives in south Knoxville with his “wingman” Bruce the cat, and enjoys reading, hiking, and playing guitar when he is not working. *The only variation in his hair color is increasing gray.

Reviews From Google

"I have always had a wonderful experience at the animal clinic. Prompt service polite professional environment and most of all the best nail service available. You know how it is to find your home, Smokey Mountain Animal Clinic is my family pets home. Thank you for such caring service. "

"Doctor Hill saved our Alaskan Malamute’s life. He was in terrible condition when we retired to Sevierville. The Vets Kota had been to did not have the knowledge of large dogs as Doctor Hill has. She immediately discovered his Thyroid condition and he is beautiful and healthy once again! We would recommend this clinic to anyone!"

" Very clean facilities, Very helpful and knowledgeable staff "

Excellent in every way!  I was able to get my elderly kitty in to see a doctor within hours for a sudden, painful and severe tooth abscess.  The doctor gave a second opinion that was extremely favorable, both to the health of my kitty, and my pocketbook.  Extremely compassionate care and concern for the overall health of my little gal.  Offering curbside only service at this time due to the virus.  They took great care of her to and from the car with no fuss. Interaction with all of the staff was top shelf!

"They are wonderful with my dogs. Love this clinic!!!-"

" They've always been great to my critters.. very helpful and knowledgeable .. compassionate and understanding.. thank u all for taking such good care of our babies!"

Common Services

Wellness Visits

Physical Exam

$45

This is the most important aspect of veterinary care.  It gives the doctor the chance to examine the pet from head to toe and survey for hidden signs of disease (dental tartar, skin allergies, external parasites, arthritis, obesity) and the chance to discuss any concerns you may have (diet, exercise, weight gain, excessive drinking, new behaviors)

Annual Exams, Vaccinations, and Labs

$126- $250

Our yearly visits start with  an assessment by the veterinarian  to determine if your pet is healthy enough to receive and respond to a vaccine and to determine what vaccines are necessary for each individual patient.

We also assess what laboratory testing is needed based on lifestyle and age of the pet.  This could just be a simple heartworm test or we may recommend a full panel of blood chemistries, hormone testing, and blood cell counts.

Diagnostics and Laboratory

Our clinic is proud to offer both in-house diagnostic and economical off-site lab services

Heartworm Testing

Just 3 drops of blood required

*We now offer the 4Dx Heartworm test which includes screening for 3 common tick-borne diseases that affect our canine patients

Fecal Parasite Screening

Most intestinal worms aren't visible in your pet's bowel movements.  We use the microscope to search for eggs instead!

Digital X-ray

Ultrasound

This diagnostic is useful for fetal heartrates and visualizing organs like the heart, bladder, kidneys, intestines, and liver.

*ear mite under the microscope

Cytology

Get a microscopic diagnosis from ear swabs, skin scrapes and fine needle aspirate of lumps and bumps

Urinalysis

Blood Chemistry Analysis

Important pre-surgery and geriatric screenings for things like kidney disease, liver dysfunction, and diabetes

Blood Cell Analysis

Complete blood counts let us see if your pet is anemic or if they are developing high white blood cell counts

Surgical Services

Our clinic offers everything from routine spays and neuters to complicated tumor removals. We have 2 surgical suites fitted with LED lighting and patient blood pressure and heart rate monitoring. We also partner with Dr. Dave Hicks with advanced orthopedic surgical options like TPLO for torn Cruciate ligaments and FLO procedures for luxating patella repairs.

Dental Services

Routine Dental Prophylaxis

This requires your pet to be put under anesthesia and involves scaling and polishing away any tartar above and below the gum line.

(cost with anesthesia, extraction, and optional pre-op testing typically ranges from $400-700)

Dental Extractions

If a tooth is fractured or has root disease it may be best to remove the tooth

Disease Management

Our vets are well-versed in treated a wide range of illnesses including diabetes, chronic allergies, cancer, glaucoma, kidney disease and many more!

Weight Management

Our doctors love diet-counseling for pets!

Arthritis Management

Arthritis is one of the most common ailments we see. Our doctors focus treatment on effective supplements, pain management and weight loss.  Ask about cutting edge monthly arthritis pain injections for cats (solensia) and Dogs (Librela).

Allergy Support and Management

East Tennessee can wreak havoc on the skin and ears of pollen sensitive pets.  Let us help put out the itchy flair-ups and create a preventative plan.  Our clinic proudly carries a once a month anti-body shot for chronically itchy pets in addition to oral medications, long lasting ear treatments, topical shampoos and mousses for whatever fits your lifestyle.

End of Life Care

Our vets provide compassionate end of life advice and services for pets and their owners.

Euthanasia

If the decision has been reached to let your pet go we offer pre-euthanasia sedation for the pet and a private room for the family.  We NEVER remove your pet from your sight before or during euthanasia unless requested.

We guide your family through what to expect during each stage of the process from:

-scheduling the right time

-a last meal or treats with our pre-sedation

-a clay paw impression made in the room with you

-fur clipping memento*

-saying goodbye with the final injection

-after care plans

Cremation

We work with Pet Angel Cremation to make sure your pet's remains are handled with respect and care.  Your pet is picked up and remains are delivered back to our clinic by a personal driver.  There are a variety of options including standard urns or upgrades with personalized mementos.

This is just a sampling of what we offer - please call the clinic if you would like to learn more or to make an appointment!
